Reveille is committed to building strong, vital partnerships in the Swansboro community on Richmond’s south side, working with Swansboro Elementary School, Koinonia Christian Church, and Love Center of Unity Full Gospel Church International. These partnerships have resulted in a number of ministry programs and opportunities.
Swansboro Food Drive
Restock the food pantries at Love Center of Unity and Koinonia Christian Church in the Swansboro
neighborhood. Donations will be collected in the welcome center in January. Donation list
Making a Difference Toward Social Justice and Peace

This is a special partner church series with Reveille, Koinonia Christian Church, and Love Center of Unity featuring guest speakers from law enforcement and the legal system. Please join us for dinner at 5:30 pm followed by a program at 6:30 pm. There will not be Wednesday worship on these evenings. Learn more | Dinner reservations
Joint Partner Church Committees
In 2017, five new committees were formed with members from Reveille, Koinonia Christian Church and Love Center of Unity:
- Worship - plans 1 - 2 joint worship services each year
- Joint Studies - plans an annual joint study series and occasional other study events
- Fellowship - plans two joint fellowship events each year
- Transportation Taskforce - works with other Richmond groups to advocate for improved public transportation for city residents to provide better access to jobs and other opportunities for those who cannot afford a car
- Prayer - creates prayer partners between the churches and holds several prayer events throughout the year

Swansboro Elementary Students
Create a life-changing relationship with a Swansboro Elementary student by becoming a mentor. Mentors are assigned to one student for the school year and meet with that student once each week to talk, play games, and assist with math or writing skills. To help, contact Jill Gaynor.
Koinonia Christian Church
Musical MondaysReveille supports the instruction of beginning piano, drums, violin, and guitar at Koinonia on Mondays during the school year, 5:00-6:15 pm. Volunteer opportunities are available for those with musical ability as well as anyone interested in helping students with arts, crafts, and homework. Time commitment: One hour and fifteen minutes each week.
Girl ScoutsReveille supports the Swansboro Girl Scout troop meeting at Koinonia the second and fourth Wednesday of each month, 6:00-8:00 pm. Volunteer opportunities are available for anyone wishing to share their hobby or special skill with these young leaders of tomorrow. Time commitment: Two hours every other week or a one-time commitment of two hours.
Swansboro Elementary School
Read Across AmericaRead to students at Swansboro Elementary School on Read Across America Day, each year in early March, many volunteers are needed to read to every class. Time commitment: One hour.
Pair with a teacher to provide consistent support in the classroom with math, reading, and writing. Time commitment: Varies, several hours per week for classroom teacher’s assistants.
Teacher Appreciation Week
Help recognize the wonderful work done by the dedicated teachers at Swansboro Elementary during this special week, usually in May. Each day Reveille aims to provide a special treat or token of appreciation, including lunch for the faculty of about 60.
Time commitment: varies.
Westview on the James CampershipsEach year, Reveille helps send 20-25 Swansboro Elementary School students to summer camp for a week at Westview on the James. Children are selected by their school to receive a campership based on financial need. Reveille volunteers help children prepare for the experience and provide transportation to and from camp. Help also is needed in meeting with the families to complete paperwork and shop for camp supplies. Time commitment: Two afternoons each summer.
Swansboro Steering Committee or S.P.I.R.I.T. Team
(Swansboro Partners Inspiring Relationships in Christ Together)
This team promotes, publicizes, and encourages the Reveille congregation to get involved in the Swansboro community. The team recruits volunteers, supports existing programs, and initiates new ministries. Meetings are on the fourth Monday of the month at 7:00 pm. The committee produces the SPIRIT Team Shout Out newsletter with upcoming opportunities in the Swansboro community.
